Not the movies. The guy in the books. I’m really, really tired of people tossing out the phrase “Ian Fleming’s James Bond” as some kind beacon of toughness that the movie Bond should get back to. That’s ridiculous. Fleming’s Bond is pretty much the most incredibly misogynistic modern literary character I can think of. Seriously, you ever read those books? The outright searing hate for women is more than palpable, it’s sometimes the driving force of the character. Throw a little of blaming homosexuals for the problems of the world to boot and you got yourself your model of gruff manliness. Aren’t these rogues supposed to have a code or something? Sheesh.
